The Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch GmbH is looking to recruit a full-time Senior Lighting Technician to start as soon as possible.

 

Established in 1973, the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch is an internationally renowned dance company whose intergenerational team is made up of 65 people from many different cultural backgrounds. The core repertoire comprises 44 pieces by Pina Bausch. In addition, the ensemble has been collaborating with international guest choreographers since 2015 to develop new productions each season. The company is based in Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia, where it gives around 30 performances per year at the Wuppertal Opera House, plus around 50 performances per year on tours all over the world.

 

Person specification:

Core qualifications:

  • Fully qualified and licenced Beleuchtungsmeister*in/ Meister*in für Veranstaltungstechnik (Bachelor Professional in Event Technology) or equivalent advanced qualification in electrics for the entertainment industry, with LX specialism
  • Additional electrical qualifications (commercial or domestic) are desirable
  • Solid knowledge of network engineering and IT, cuelab, vectorworks (or AutoCAD) and MS Office
  • Proven experience of programming ETC and/or MA family desks and moving lights

 

Other skills and experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both German and English
  • Strong organisational skills & ability to work independently to plan and implement workflows and processes
  • Experience of managing staff teams and casual technicians.
  • Ability to work as part of a team & sensitivity in working with artists and creative practitioners
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health & safety regulations within a theatrical context, including electrical safety and working at height

 

Due to the nature of the work, unsociable hours, evening and weekend work are required, particularly during touring periods. Applicants must hold a full driving licence, valid in Germany.

 

Main duties:

  • Rigging, focusing, programming and show operation for new and existing dance theatre productions
  • Planning for and coordinating international tours and performances at partner venues
  • Contributing to the planning of equipment preparation, including new hires and purchases (LX and projection equipment)
  • Video and image projection (cuelab)
  • Attending relevant planning and production meetings
  • Overseeing and implementing a rolling maintenance programme for electrical equipment
  • Monitoring compliance with health & safety regulations and ensuring a safe working environment
